WOMEN & CHILDREN FUND PRIORITIES

The W. Glen Boyd Charitable Foundation supports programs which make a significant difference in empowering women and children to improve the quality of their lives, and/or which eliminate barriers that prevent success for women and children. We are especially, interested in funding organizations/programs which:

empower single mothers, or women/children/youth from under-served, under-represented populations living in poverty, violence, or "at risk" situations;

provide for immediate and critical needs with follow-up and multiple-issues services;

empower women and/or children to build assets and promote resiliency; work on prevention; develop greater self-respect, independence, and self-sufficiency;

develop personal, educational, professional, and leadership skills; provide access to/training or mentoring for greater educational and economic development;

provide meaningful, age-appropriate, safe, and supervised educational experiences for underserved children/youth.

provide support and/or follow-up that encourages long-term success for clients

In addition, priority will be given to organizations/programs which:

are grassroots-based and significantly improve the lives of women and/or children, but have difficulty accessing traditional funding or are facing increase use of services but lack necessary resources, etc.,

provide direct service, a blend of direct service/social change, or collaborate with other organizations to enhance services or advance progressive social change/systems change (i.e. addressing immediate needs in a battered women's shelter, then empowering women to advocate for themselves and educate others);

value and actively include diversity and culturally-specific programs and resources;

include voices of constituents (including youth) in the process of determining program needs, solutions, and evaluation.

evaluate the effectiveness of their services and/or achievements of their clients

HOW TO APPLY

STEP 1:

Carefully read Guidelines to ensure that your funding request fits WGBCF''s grant priorities before submitting a Letter of Inquiry. Feel free to contact us if you have questions about your organization's/program's "fit" with WGBCF programs.

Submit a 1-2 page Letter of Inquiry. Letters of Inquiry are accepted at ANY TIME. However, if the grant cycle is FULL or if your letter is received 2 weeks or less prior to a full proposal deadline your request may be deferred until the next grant cycle. DO NOT SUBMIT A FULL PROPOSAL AT THIS TIME. Please send your inquiry via regular postal mail. No e-mailed or faxed inquiries accepted.
(no FedEx, UPS, etc)

Your letter should briefly address the following areas:
1) your organization’s background, mission, and date of establishment;
2) description of the specific program for which you are requesting funds,
   (including whom it will serve);
3) amount of your request and specifics of how WGBCF funds will be used.(ie. staff, materials, etc).

WGBCF staff will respond to your inquiry within 2 weeks. If you are requested to submit a Full Proposal and Attachments, all documents are due by the posted deadlines.

STEP 2:

If invited to apply, submit a Full Proposal by the posted deadlines:
(WOMEN & CHILDREN FUND: (NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW APPLICATIONS)
A Full Proposal includes: Cover Sheet, Proposal Narratives, Budgets, and Attachments (the original plus 2 copies of each). Grant Application Forms may be downloaded from our website. We do not accept applications sent via e-mail, fax, or walk-in delivery. Please note that your application may NOT be processed until all parts of your proposal are received.
APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AFTER A DEADLINE MAY BE DECLINED .

Site Visits: As time and resources permit, WGBCF staff would like to visit each organization before granting or denying a request. Site visits are meant to be informal opportunities to develop rapport and partnership, and to see first-hand the good work you and your staff are doing that is often difficult to convey in a proposal!

Final Decisions: Summaries of applications will be reviewed, then sent to the funder for final selection. Final decisions and notifications to applicants will be made by the posted deadlines (typically 10-13 weeks after receipt of full Proposal).
